Honouring Nurses

It is National Nurses Week and Indigenous Nurses Day! In this special episode, Gerry takes a few minutes to say thank you to the frontline heroes who show up everyday to keep us safe. Gerry recounts the times in his life he has felt immense gratitude to nurses for their selflessness and dedication to the communities they serve.

"We were all one." Gerry encourages us to physically distance and to isolate during Covid-19, but to do it in a good way that helps us to develop as individuals and communities, such as by turning your home into your own personal paradise!



Gerry talks about his relationship to Ceremonial Life. Ceremony refers to a spiritual or public occasion - Gerry didn't know or couldn't understand what ceremonies were for until a little later in life. Tune in and listen as he shares what he's learned about living a life in ceremony.


Language and Ceremony

Gerry shares his teachings on the importance of Indigenous languages and the use of ceremony falling on both Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples alike. As Gerry shares his teachings, he acknowledges the cultural significance and history of Indigenous ceremonies and language and using these as a means of connection.


The Heart of Xee-Nut-Sa

In episode four of Teachings In The Air season 3 we get to sit in on one of Gerry’s keynote speeches: Gerry addresses the Canadian Association of Practical Nurse Educators (CAPNE) in Manitoba at a conference on Inclusivity, emphasizing the importance of inner healing and holistic health as a means to address bias and stereotypes and promote inclusivity.


Harm's Way

Gerry’s experiences with his elders taught him profound yet easy to remember ways in which our peoples avoided unnecessary situations that caused harm. Listen as Gerry teaches how the ways of our people can lead to a long and healthy life out of harm’s way.


Going Home

Gerry joins us from a meeting with the Sacred Circles organization. While sitting fireside with his crew Gerry tells us what a sacred circle is to him and how we can "go home" to our traditional ways using such sacred circles.
